Character and What Really Counts

There has been a lot of chatter about the ‘Character Counts’ program that was instituted at WMS a few years ago. Ironically, most probably don’t know how that came to be.

During the time of the Coalition which came together in response to the irresponsible “Breen Proposal” that was hatched by the previous leadership of the Board of Education with taxpayer monies in trying to take over the Academy, it was our intent at the time to find ways to send clear messages to the BOE regarding their abhorrent behavior. Early one Sunday afternoon I received a call from Preston Shultz who had seen the program described on CBS Sunday Morning, so I went online to check it out.

After looking into it, it appeared to me that it was well defined and I decided to make an issue of it on the Coalition website which I knew was being read by those involved- the website is static now but the link is still there on the home page.

Our intent was to send a message that children take more direction from watching the behavior of the adults than anything else, especially those in any position of power- anyone who is a parent knows this to be true- it’s not what you say that counts, it’s the example that you set. Kids are far more perceptive than we sometimes give them credit for.

The ironic part of this is that, in what was clearly a PR move on the part of the board leadership at the time, the program was instituted at WMS which is all well and fine; however, it is eminently clear that the message was completely lost on the people that it was intended to have an effect on in their outrageous behavior- they clearly missed the point and the irresponsible crusades continued without remorse until just a few weeks ago when the BOE leadership changed. And to be sure, they continue to plot to undermine the new leadership for nefarious reasons.

The illegitimate propaganda of the deposed BOE leadership is still being purveyed today- guess where? The completely irresponsible Woodstock Café  blog (aka Aljazeera) run by BOE employee Rebbecca Leavitt and frequented by the very people who could not- and are still incapable of grasping the message.
