Meet Charles M. Super- Candidate for Board of Finance

Charles M. Super has lived in Woodstock since 1998. He is a professor of Human Development and Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut, where he also served for a decade as Dean of the School of Family Studies, and as the Director of the Division of Health and Human Development. In his administrative capacities he has been responsible for multi-million dollar budgets, and his School became the most cost-effective unit at the University.

On the Board of Finance, he will apply his budgetary and financial experience with three overarching goals in mind:
  • Clarity- budgets voted by the Board must be formulated and presented in a manner that makes clear (to taxpayers as well as Board members) where the money is going.
  • Accountability- budgets must also be justified in a way that is understandable and that corresponds to how funds are actually to be used.
  • Planning- the Board needs to be vigilant in understanding not only the Town’s expenditures but also its current and anticipated income; to this end there needs to be greater collaboration with other elected bodies to foresee changes and optimize sources beyond the Grand List.

Hmmm. Sounds quite similar to the bio I just read for Sarah Harkness in the Villager. Is there a connection?

Gotta be on the lookout for those liberal spouses with different last names in Woodstock politics! Some (conflict) how they (of) always manage to (interest) sneak by us...

Yes, Charles and Sara are a couple.

I don't know how it is at your house, but I know that there are plenty of differing perspectives in mine. Susan is left of me most of the time...I have learned that couples are not one in the same person, sometimes the hard way

The more important consideration is that he is qualified compared to some of our other candidates.

Here in Woodstock we are on the other side of the looking glass. Most of those that carry the national party association are just the opposite in Woodstock. Want a tax and spend liberal? Go talk to a Republican.
