The Empire Prevails
Needless to say I’ve been pretty embroiled in all of this for the last few weeks (and years) and it has been a real experience. We raised the debate and I am proud of the campaign we ran. I cannot say the same about the opposition.
Going into this I knew full well that it would be an uphill battle; however, the stakes were and are still worth it. These are your kids and mine, although we are now “safe” at the Academy.
The most amazing revelation to me about all of this is the PTO and their supporters. I’ve been to countless BOE meetings over the last 4 years and it is ALWAYS just me and maybe 3 others- and NONE of them. It appears to me that they know not what they defend and support blindly, this to me is a scary proposition considering the power wielded and money spent by the BOE.
I have said it before and I will say it again- our administration is substandard and our schools nothing special, although I will say that our experience at WES was a positive one. We found the WMS experience highly lacking. This BOE has no vision for quality education of the children and it appears to be an ego trip for the leadership…a bad combination. Today’s outcome was a vote for mediocrity and sad for the children of Woodstock.
Recently, I spent 3 hours on the phone with a retired Woodstock teacher who knows more about the situation than anyone I have ever spoken with and that knowledge goes way deeper than anything we have uncovered over the years- which is saying a lot. Of course, the teacher would not come out, but told me that the people beating a path to the door to ask questions in the last few weeks left with an entirely different attitude than when they showed up there.
Woodstock parents, this is now on you and unless you pick up the mantle and start paying attention to the issues before you, you will get what you deserve. The ‘No’ vote was a vote for the status-quo, not for the children of Woodstock. My best wishes parents- good luck.

Thank you, and all the other warriors who took on this challenge. My child is out of the Woodstock system completely now and for that I am happy. Our WES experience was fantastic. Our WMS experience was wonderful for 3 years and the 4th was very difficult as a new principal arrived. Another clueless hire by the BOE. The Academy was why we built our house here and the experience was good for 3 of the 4 years too.
Maybe it is time to move on to another place. There are too many sheep here. This town has lost what it was that attracted me to it.
Good luck
