Support for Citizen Audit Committees from the Inside

Yesterday, I had a conversation with a parent regarding the state of our schools. He knew, as well as most of you know that I have issues with how our SPED department is administered. I make no bones about it.  The Superintendent has admitted that there are problems with the department in open BOE meetings yet nothing is done about it.

This parent spoke of the other side of the coin and was just as unhappy about advanced programs and the lack of progress in that area. He went on to say that in a recent conversation with his child’s teachers it was said these programs are currently tabled although his understanding was that they are active.  So, what’s the problem?

Those of you who read Dave’s article below know that lack of funding isn’t the issue when this amount of money is spent on lawn mowers, office furniture, and other baubles in the spending spree in the last months of the budget year. This certainly doesn’t represent ‘economy, efficiency and effectiveness of school resources’ and has to make one wonder what the priorities really are with regard to the children.

It is clear from the Telegram article below (see link) that at least two Board members that were elected by wide margins have concerns as well, as they openly support the initiative.

After our discussion, the parent I spoke with expressed interest in being involved. All citizens and parents who supported these Board members in the election now need to support them in this initiative. I can’t think of a better way. Can you?

I am glad to hear that Mr. Rosendahl and Mr. Musumeci are supportive of this endeavor. I feel it is their right and responsibility to move this issue forward as they have the position and the political capital to do so. I would be interested in knowing when Mr. Rosendahl and Mr. Musumeci plan on presenting their ideas and plans to the BOE. Thanks.
