The Calm Before the Storm
This is an excerpt of a comment by Jeff Kelleher posted on the Aljazeera Café this morning-
“…For example, woodstocktruth.com puts rather mean-spirited attacks on it’s main page. Someone who is inclined to disagree with positions on that site will not read much, and will dismiss anything they see there.
The cafe, on occasion, depending on the current front page articles, can do the same. Just because the truth represents the far right (as far as I can tell), the cafe does not need to represent the far left. If the cafe does represent the far left, then I want no part of it. If the cafe strives to foster intelligent discussion, I’ll keep posting (for better or worse).
If we expect the cafe to be a place to discuss opinions and be a mainstream venue for discussions on town politics and interests, we must discuss thing s in a civil manner. If people who make logical, even-tempered, and well-meaning posts are attacked, then this site loses value.”
This statement begs the question of where Mr. Kelleher has been for the last couple of years, or the last couple of months for that matter. After the unconscionable attack on Mr. Rosendahl and the ‘Father’s Day Massacre’ by Mr. Breen, I am mean spirited? Oh please. My tongue in cheek sarcasm must be lost on Mr. Kelleher as is the fact of the investigational proof of what goes on in this town disguised as politics. Truth simply is what it is if you are willing to do your homework. The traffic and survey results here at the site have borne out my take that some people are actually paying attention, however, most consider it a spectator sport- this is the age old problem in Woodstock. While I applaud Mr. Kelleher for his involvement evidenced by his recent letter to the editor and postings, however uninformed, I would urge him to become educated prior to entering the field of battle.
To describe this site as “far right” literally made me giggle. As I consider myself a conservative democrat (an oxymoron to some), I am nonetheless a democrat. I have said things here on this site that would make any republican cringe- but that is not what it’s about for me…as a country, state and town we have lost our way, as citizens we have lost our voice- not because of any outside force, but due to apathy and fear. The apathy I can almost understand due to busy lives etcetera, but the fear of bullies and fear that somehow you might be perceived as having an opinion of your own that might make you unpopular in Woodstock I have no respect for…nor do I have respect for those who talk from both sides of their mouths for political expedience or to promote personal agendas at the expense of others, which seems to be the ‘Woodstock way’.
The “far left” that he describes is so far left it took forming the “Breen Party” to house the craziness and sock puppet posers- good for them, however, the lack of strategy from inception has doomed that agenda to failure. Parties mean absolutely nothing in this town- ask your party leaders how their board members are adhering to their platforms- if they have one.
The bad news is that it appears to me that we will continue down the path we are on as described -HERE- in an article written months ago that continues to ring true. Until the electorate gets angry and gets involved ala the 9th Grade public forum, the status quo and gross mismanagement of our town will continue unabated- the good news is that there are individuals who are diligent in seeking truth and there are a couple of things on the short term horizon that very well might provide the lightning bolt to make something happen- this is just the calm before the storm.

I believe that 99% of the issues directly effecting Woodstock transcend politics. It is irrevelent whether or not someone is far left or far right on issues concerning quality education, planning and zoning, developing budgets, etc. What matters is truth and honesty and it isn't a stretch to say that it does lack, at times, in both parties. Regardless, I remain hopeful as I still see enough good people, Republicans and Democrats, acting not in self interest, but in the best interest of the town.
