Truth is Not Convenient
Democracy is sometimes not pretty or convenient either. The larger question here is will you vote your conscience or the status quo?
Video doesn’t lie. If you have taken the time to watch some of it here you know the score. It is my opinion that there is no excuse for the attitudes of our officials.
This vote goes beyond the conniving, out of control BOE and the stonewalling BOF, not to mention the almost silent BOS. It is about priorities. The first priority should always be holding these folks accountable for what they do or don’t do as the case may be- they are supposed to work for your best interest, not theirs, in a transparent manner. I have yet to see evidence of that.
Your BOE has taken covert operations to a new level over the last few years including attempting to circumvent the democratic process entirely, on your dime, while continuing to deny involvement in the face of irrefutable evidence- with a parade of lies that would make Bush and Cheney blush.
Your BOF and Treasurer have taken the circumvention of a town ordinance to the ridiculous over the last four years. The latest end run is really something to behold. They actually sat there and said “if we don’t take the whole $250K for revaluation this year, we won’t be able to roll it over under Prop 46 next year”- thereby artificially and illegally increasing the base. Were they hoping no one would notice? Then comes the finger pointing at the BOS for not budgeting correctly- ludicrous. It appears that they actually expect to be rewarded for these behaviors by having this combined budget (if you can call it that) pass.
Mr. Hosmer in his latest editorial actually had the audacity to say “What would happen if every citizen demanded that we take a particular course of action?”. Mr. Hosmer, don't you mean "What would happen if every citizen demanded that we follow the law?" I believe he is about to find out one way or another. It seems that the law, as usual, doesn’t apply here in Woodstock because it is also inconvenient.
So it comes to this- YOU are “every citizen”. It’s time to send another message- loud and clear- and that is, YOU are smarter than they think you are.
