The Showdown Over 46 Begins

Note: See videos at end of article

I believe that last night’s BOF meeting will prove to be a pivotal point in the future of Woodstock. It appears that the BOF has taken a position in favor of the status quo, no matter how silly, in the face of the hard questions that remain unanswered; blaming Prop 46 as the culprit in the further marginalizing of the taxpayer’s interests. This is the easy way out in my opinion…but an agenda nonetheless.

Citizen participation was quite enlightening in revealing the attitude of this Board. We heard the words “hysterical”, “scam” & “callous” among others from the citizens when describing the attitude put forth during discussion by the BOF.

As previously written, I personally care not whether Prop 46 stands or falls. It is the nature of how the agenda is unfolding that bothers me regarding an ordinance they are sworn to uphold and are clearly circumventing for their purposes…and those purposes are, without a doubt, to amend or do away with it.

Mr. Dowd tried to make the point that, and I’m paraphrasing here, “the stones should be thrown at Prop 46 not us”, this appeared to me to be designed to demonize the ordinance, setting up the showdown.

It is clear to me that very little in the way of scrutinizing the budgets actually occurred, nor do they care to do so, as after all it’s not their money.

So, as is the penchant of our leaders to avoid the issues in favor of legal wrangling, so shall be the further bleeding of our pocketbooks to fund the looming battle, truly unconscionable. See for yourself…
